This weekend, Davida will be at what is considered to be the oldest custom event outside of USA, The Custom Bike Show in Norrtalje, Sweden from June 7-8th 2014
I’ve been visiting Scandinavia since the early 2000’s, so I am a real latecomer to the Custom Bike scene. In 1974, I can remember being at The Big Bike Shop in South London, one of our dealers at the time selling our vacuum gauges. The Big Bike owners used to edit Custom Car magazine in the UK and they all used to hang out and smoke long gringo-type cigars in the shop, surrounded by choppers and metal flake paint. I was a keen sprayer myself in those days and bought my pearl paint from them. Big Bike where regular visitors to the Swedish Custom Bike scene and would tell me they reckoned there were more muscle cars in Sweden than in the USA. 40 years later and here I am about to visit again, one of the oldest custom shows in the world, next to Rats Hole in the USA. I’m guessing, I could be wrong but I am sure not fart from the mark. Some great creations come out of the dark months in Scandinavia.
I always see the competition as a battle between the Fins, Swedes and Norwegians but some of the Dutch boys and girls have come up with some nice machines for Norrtaljie. Davida will be enjoying the hospitality of Mala the editor of the Finnish, Kopteri Magazine on their stand.I brought some of our latest Davida Helmet creations, but my main focus is the bikes and friends from Finland and Sweden this weekend. The sun hardly sets here in the night the camping is good at the Twin Club who have been putting it on for 40 years do a good job. Check it we are here till Sunday morning you can find us .
Here’s a few snaps from previous visits to give you the flavour. If you are in the UK it’s an easy hop on a plane to Sweden and then just jump on the bus – it works fine for a really quick trip.
